Confirmation Class

09.25.17Confirmation Class

Dear friends,

Soon the Confirmation Class will be starting.
Traditionally this class is for those in the 9th grade or older who would like to be confirmed and join the church, although age is negotiable.

The Confirmation Class has three components.
1. Each confirmand is required to attend a weekly class.
2. Each confirmand is also asked to regularly attend Sunday morning worship and will be expected to serve alternately as lector, acolyte, and usher during the church year.
3. Each confirmand will be expected to participate in a service component. This has usually been to help prepare food for our outreach ministry.

All confirmands will have a mentor (usually a parent or parents) who is to work with them throughout the classes.

Please contact the church office at (516) 766-2080 if you have or know of a youth who is interested in being confirmed

Grace & peace,
Pastor Bob

Help For Harvey!

Even as we approach the fifth anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, Texas needs our help! Cleaning Buckets and Health Kits, which can be sent to affected areas, are going to be our immediate priorities for St. Mark’s.

To begin with, we’re in need of supplies for our health kits. What’s left on our sign-up sheet is:
10 Toothbrushes
(adult size only, leave in original packaging)

20 Bath Soaps
(3 oz. and larger sizes only: No Ivory or Jergens soap due to moisture content: do not remove from original packaging)

50 metal nail file / nail clippers
(No emery boards, please)

Balance of $25 cash

Please email with your item commitment amount so that we can keep track of items left. Please bring them to church this Sunday as we kick-off our Sunday School year. If we have enough complete kits, we will begin to assemble them with our Sunday School youth volunteers.

Thanks, Pastor Bob

New Bible Study (Beginning Wed, May 10, 2017)

New Bible Study
Beginning Wednesday, May 10, 2017
1:00pm in the Church Parlor

Have you ever wondered who wrote the books in your Bible and how they ended up together? Has anyone ever told you that some books were cut out of the Bible or that the stories of Jesus in the Gospels can’t be trusted? Through these six sessions, Dr. Timothy Paul Jones will answer your questions about how we got the Bible.

Join us Wednesdays at 1:00pm for this learning fellowship. We can add a session if there is interest for an evening gathering.

Please see Pastor Bob if you are interested in attending.

New Lenten Study

Dear friends,

We have added a weekday session to our Lenten Study. For those who cannot join us on Sundays in the parsonage, we will also meet Wednesdays at 1 PM in the church parlor.
The Wednesday sessions will begin this Wednesday, March 1st.

We’re used to answers popping up on a screen right in front of us. But when the questions examine the truths that give meaning and purpose to life, finding the answers takes more than simply typing a few words and pushing a button. Adam Hamilton believes that powerful answers to many of our complicated questions are contained in the Apostles’ Creed, an early statement of foundational Christian beliefs. In Creed, we will explore not only what Christians believe, but also why we believe, and why it matters, which in turn leads us to confront and examine our own core beliefs and go beyond simply reciting the Creed’s familiar words.

Chapters include: God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, the Church at the Communion of Saints, the Forgiveness of Sins, and the Resurrection of the Body.

Please plan to join us in fellowship beginning Wednesday, March 1 at 1 PM in the church parlor or Sunday, March 5th in the parsonage as together we explore our faith.

Please see Pastor Bob if you are interested in joining.
