Soup and Sandwich and Decorations!
Please plan to stay a while on Sunday November 26 to decorate the sanctuary for Christmas. There will no coffee hour that Sunday, but a soup and sandwich lunch will be served in the parsonage.
Each year our congregation has made contributions for the children in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center of Rockville Centre. They are in need of games, books, and school supplies. The children (and youth) in the program range in age from 5 years to 14 years of age, so there is a wide variety of possible items to choose. Please wrap your gift in plain white paper, mark on the outside the age appropriate to the gift, and bring it on Sunday, December 17 to be brought to the manger of our Christmas pageant. Many thanks for your generosity in this and the several ongoing mission programs here at St. Mark’s.
On our worship service on Sunday December 17, our children and youth will present the St. Mark’s Christmas Pageant. Please plan to bring your white gifts (see above announcement).
We are sorry to inform you that our planned Advent Study has been cancelled. We will have another scripturally led study as soon as possible. We will keep you posted.
Grace & peace,
Rev. Robert Grimm

New Advent Study Begins
Wednesday, Evening, November 29
We’re not that different from Joseph. True, we may not be part of a story that will be remembered for all time, but like Joseph, we encounter circumstances that we’d never choose for ourselves. At times, it can be tempting just to walk away, but Joseph provides us a great example of humbly obeying God even when we don’t understand, faithfully moving forward in the strength that God provides. The story of Joseph provides us a great example of humbly obeying God even when we don’t understand and faithfully moving forward in the strength that God provides.
Please join us Wednesday evenings at 7:30 in the parlor as we walk with Joseph the four weeks of the season of Advent.
United Methodist Women Event:
This monthly gathering of the UMW will include a field trip on Friday, October 20th.
We will meet in St. Mark’s parking lot at 11am and carpool to Planting Fields Historic State Park. There will be a guided tour of the Gold Coast mansion Coe Hall. Price $5. Lunch in Oyster Bay Afterwards.
As always, our gathering is open to all who wish to attend- male, female, family, friends just no crabby people, please!
RSVP to Rose Stein at firstname.lastname@example.org or in church. If Rose is not around, please leave a response with Janet Gustaferri.
Soon the Confirmation Class will be starting.
Traditionally this class is for those in the 9th grade or older who would like to be confirmed and join the church, although age is negotiable.
The Confirmation Class has three components.
1. Each confirmand is required to attend a weekly class.
2. Each confirmand is also asked to regularly attend Sunday morning worship and will be expected to serve alternately as lector, acolyte, and usher during the church year.
3. Each confirmand will be expected to participate in a service component. This has usually been to help prepare food for our outreach ministry.
All confirmands will have a mentor (usually a parent or parents) who is to work with them throughout the classes.
Please contact the church office at (516) 766-2080 if you have or know of a youth who is interested in being confirmed
Grace & peace,
Even as we approach the fifth anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, Texas needs our help! Cleaning Buckets and Health Kits, which can be sent to affected areas, are going to be our immediate priorities for St. Mark’s.
To begin with, we’re in need of supplies for our health kits. What’s left on our sign-up sheet is:
(adult size only, leave in original packaging)
20 Bath Soaps
(3 oz. and larger sizes only: No Ivory or Jergens soap due to moisture content: do not remove from original packaging)
50 metal nail file / nail clippers
(No emery boards, please)
Balance of $25 cash
Please email email@example.com with your item commitment amount so that we can keep track of items left. Please bring them to church this Sunday as we kick-off our Sunday School year. If we have enough complete kits, we will begin to assemble them with our Sunday School youth volunteers.
Thanks, Pastor Bob
New Bible Study
Beginning Wednesday, May 10, 2017
1:00pm in the Church Parlor
Have you ever wondered who wrote the books in your Bible and how they ended up together? Has anyone ever told you that some books were cut out of the Bible or that the stories of Jesus in the Gospels can’t be trusted? Through these six sessions, Dr. Timothy Paul Jones will answer your questions about how we got the Bible.
Join us Wednesdays at 1:00pm for this learning fellowship. We can add a session if there is interest for an evening gathering.
Please see Pastor Bob if you are interested in attending.
